The leaves of the agave plant are usually sword-shaped or fan-shaped, large, fleshy, and inverted needle-shaped. The surface of the leaves is smooth, and the edges may have sparsely spiny teeth or red stripes. The spiny structure at the tip of the leaf may be stiff or translucent.
